Medical Revelations in Recent Political Talks
During recent government-opposition negotiations, the government delegation informed representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that a specialist doctor was brought from London to examine Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, according to media reports. Officials stated this measure was taken because his blood pressure had remained high for several weeks.
The disclosure brings fresh focus to the health and detention conditions of the former prime minister, a subject of ongoing political discourse and legal petitions.
Details of Medical Examinations and Board Findings
Public records and reports from outlets such as Pakistan Today and Daily Times outline the history of medical evaluations concerning the PTI founder. A government-formed medical board consisting of four doctors—Dr. Farqad Alamgir, Dr. Arif Khan, Dr. Akhtar Ali Bandesha, and Dr. Ali Arif—examined him at Adiala Jail on August 10, 2026. Their official report subsequently surfaced on October 6, 2026.
The board's findings recorded an anxiety rating of "three-plus," a blood pressure reading of 140/80, and a pulse of 54, while noting that both an electrocardiogram (ECG) and an echocardiogram returned normal results.
Among their medical recommendations, the board advised a daily one-hour walk, improved access to family members, newspapers, television, and books, as well as more frequent meetings with his wife.
Jail Authorities' Record and Hospital Transfers
Addressing previous legal proceedings, jail authorities informed the Supreme Court in August that the PTI founder had undergone 39 medical examinations between November 2023 and August 2026. Furthermore, authorities reported that an affected eye had nearly regained normal vision following treatment for central retinal vein occlusion.
The legal and medical saga has previously involved higher judicial intervention. While the Supreme Court had ordered his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for care, the government instead transported him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), citing security concerns, as reported by Pakistan Today.
Following evaluations at the state facility, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that the PIMS medical team had found him to be "medically fit."
Positions of Government and Opposition
The dialogue between the ruling administration and the opposition continues to navigate contentious issues, including prisoner welfare, legal access, and institutional transparency. While government representatives maintain that comprehensive healthcare provisions and specialist consultations have been duly arranged, opposition figures have consistently raised concerns over detention environments and medical transparency.
As discussions proceed, both sides remain divided on the broader political and humanitarian aspects of the situation, with observers closely watching whether the ongoing talks will yield consensus on prisoner rights and medical access.
