A ticking clock has been set for hoteliers across Punjab, as tax authorities demand total technological compliance before the month runs out. According to Business Recorder, the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has instructed hotel operators to complete the full installation of the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) without exception.

Business Recorder reported that PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra issued the directive during a meeting with a delegation from the Hotels Association. The talks centered on rolling out EIMS across the hospitality sector, improving tax compliance, and expanding the overall tax base.

During the discussions, participants reviewed the technical requirements, the installation process, and the specific challenges hoteliers face in adopting the system. Business Recorder noted that the Hotels Association delegation pledged its full cooperation with PRA initiatives aimed at enhancing the tax system and driving digitalisation. The delegation was assured that industry-wide EIMS installation would wrap up within the current month.

Background

According to Business Recorder, the PRA leadership urged hotel owners to ensure complete system installation and timely tax payments. Officials emphasized that issuing proper computerized receipts for services rendered is a legal obligation. The Chairman stated that collaboration with the business community can make the taxation framework simpler, more transparent, and more efficient, while wider tax coverage encourages formal business activity and fosters a compliance culture. Business Recorder also reported a stern warning from the Chairman that operators engaging in fraud related to electronic receipts will face heavy penalties and strict action.

Why it matters

For ordinary citizens and business operators in Pakistan, this initiative represents a push toward a documented economy and increased transparency in commercial transactions. Ensuring that every customer receives a legitimate computerized receipt helps build a fairer system where tax obligations are met consistently across the hospitality sector.
